Our Junior Preschool Program is a vibrant, ever-evolving space where 3–4-year-olds are encouraged to explore, imagine, and create. This classroom is a living studio of ideas and collaboration — a place where curiosity takes the lead and children’s voices shape the rhythm of the day. Guided by Reggio Emilia principles and the Alberta FLIGHT Curriculum Framework, learning unfolds through relationships, exploration, and play.

For our Curious Creators, every day offers opportunities to explore the world through art, sensory play, storytelling, scientific inquiry, mathematical exploration, and imaginative thinking. These experiences are not just activities but meaningful encounters that help children construct knowledge and make sense of their world. The environment is a reflection of this journey — filled with documentation, photographs, and children’s work that celebrate their learning stories and creative discoveries.

Social development blossoms during this stage, and children are deeply engaged in building friendships, negotiating, and collaborating. Through playful interactions, they learn empathy, communication, and problem-solving — essential skills that prepare them for the next stages of learning and life. Educators gently guide these moments, helping children navigate their relationships and celebrate the joy of being part of a caring community.

The Junior Preschool room is intentionally arranged to invite independence, curiosity, and pride in learning. Every shelf, material, and display has a purpose — to inspire wonder and invite children to see themselves as capable and valued contributors. The room hums with movement and imagination, filled with open-ended, natural materials, music, dance, and expressive play that encourage creativity and joy in learning.

Beyond the classroom walls, children engage in community walks and outdoor adventures that deepen their connection to nature and their community. Experiences like exploring local parks, observing seasonal changes, or discovering textures and sounds in nature bring the FLIGHT framework’s sense of place and belonging to life. Special traditions — like our annual Halloween Walk and visits from community friends — enrich these experiences with shared memories and meaningful connections.

Families provide all meals and snacks, creating a beautiful bridge between home and program. This approach allows children to experience comfort and familiarity through food while reflecting their family’s culture, routines, and preferences. Our educators walk alongside families in supporting eating skills, independence, and developmental needs, ensuring that daily care is consistent, nurturing, and responsive.

Our educators are intentional co-learners, listening deeply to children’s ideas and offering thoughtful provocations that inspire critical and creative thinking. With warmth and expertise, they foster confidence and self-expression, helping each child see themselves as an important part of their community. In this rich, collaborative environment, every question, idea, and discovery is valued — because at Daydreams, learning is a shared journey of wonder.
